Participant Guidelines

Simple guidelines that keep participants safe and wildlife undisturbed on every Wildscope program.

Before you come

  • Read the program page for the meeting point, timing, difficulty and age guidance.
  • Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothes in muted colours. Carry water, a cap, sun protection and any personal medicines.
  • Binoculars, a notebook and a camera are welcome but not required.
  • Tell us in your registration about any health condition or accessibility need we should plan for.

On the trail

  • Stay with the group and follow the guide’s instructions at all times.
  • Walk quietly and keep to paths. Do not chase, touch, feed or handle animals, and do not pick plants.
  • Keep a respectful distance from nests, roosts and burrows. Never use flash on nesting birds or nocturnal animals.
  • Do not play recorded bird calls to attract birds.
  • Carry back everything you bring, including all litter.
  • Snakes, insects and plants can be harmful — never try to handle or identify by touch.

Children

Children are very welcome on programs marked as suitable for their age. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, who is responsible for them throughout the program.

Weather, cancellation & rescheduling

Programs may be postponed, shortened or cancelled because of heavy rain, extreme heat, unsafe conditions or other reasons beyond our control. Registered participants will be informed using the phone number or email given at registration. Updated status is always shown on the program page.

[PLACEHOLDER] Add your refund and cancellation policy for paid programs (for example, what happens to fees if a program is cancelled, or if a participant cancels).

Photographs

Wildscope may photograph programs for reports and our website. If you prefer not to appear in photographs, please tell the guide at the start. We ask permission before publishing photographs in which participants can be identified.

Emergencies

In an emergency, follow the guide’s instructions and stay with the group.

[PLACEHOLDER] Confirm the first-aid arrangements and add an emergency contact number for programs.
